Not content with putting scores of elderly people on the Liverpool Care Pathway to unblock beds and lighten the load on the NHS budget, we’re now told our once great health service has another way of cutting numbers.
Two new studies reveal that just one in seven women over 70 has a chance of getting chemotherapy, standard for younger women.
And they’re being denied life-saving drugs solely because of their age and presumably because some doctor has decided they’re past their “save by” date.
No wonder Britain’s survival rates for breast cancer are lower than in other developed countries. It’s not because we don’t know how to cure it... we don’t want to because it’s too expensive.
All this in the week execrable NHS boss David Nicholson once again refused to resign and had the brass neck to say: “Patient care is at the top of my tree.” The hell it is!
