Liverpool Care Pathway – Take This Vehicle Off-Road!

Mr. Lamb, you appear to be of the opinion that the problem lies not with the vehicle - the Liverpool Care Pathway - but with the drivers of the vehicle...

Mr. Lamb, there is a problem with the drivers, certainly...!
But the vehicle needs to be taken off-road immediately and consigned, straight way, to the breakers yard before it may do further damage and harm!

I am still in distress thinking I should have stood up and helped my mum. I trusted the doctors and thought they were helping my mum to live, not to die. The LCP needs to be stopped. I am, at present, trying to put together a complaint against the hospital involved, and feel that they in fact brought about my mums death sooner than it might have been. For this I feel utter devastation.

i trained to nurse in 1950 hospitals in those days were safe places. it scares me to read about this practise. animals are treated more humanely yes i believe in euthanasia but not this way

02:35, Nov 05, Mr. John ONEILL, United Kingdom
We live in a Culture of Death society where old people are now terrified to enter hospitals. This is our brave new world.

12:44, Nov 04, Mr. Michael Fleet, United Kingdom
I took my Mother to Hospital for "Tests". When I returned, they had already instituted LCP without asking or prior warning. They said "it is now too dangerous to withdraw it as She could now be a Morphine Addict.

08:39, Nov 04, Mrs. M Cook, United Kingdom
Zieg Heil! Already done this to 2 family members in Bournemouth - neither terminally ill or frail, both ww2 vets who were still looking after themselves......the pigs who thought this up should be shot! The consent of the patient is the difference between ''care' and 'manslaughter'....a DOH who rolled this out without adequate checks and safeguards are guilty of corporate manslaughter and should be taken to the EU - we all have a right to life -agents of the state are being paid bonuses to take that away from us simply because we are elderly or disabled.....bastards!

05:20, Nov 04, Mr. Hugh Burke, United Kingdom
As sent to local MP. How did it ever become legal to Starve and Dehydrate a human being to Death. Yet we will not legalise self elected euthanasia. Not that I am a supporter of euthanasia. Is this not premeditated killing by The NHS = Murder, yet the NHS have been given the power of life or death, death being the more profitable. It's on record that some families discovered their relatives were on the The Pathway and rescued them with water and food. Sir, I do hope that you will show your opposition to this Death Pathway in every form. I'm sure every elderly person now going into hospital, will wonder if they may be judged to be too feeble to be allowed to survive and put on the more financially more rewarding Pathway to Death.

19:31, Nov 03, Ms. Keira Morrison, United Kingdom
It is a duty incumbent upon every medical person ot proect life and do no harm

05:09, Nov 02, Ms. Kathleen Flanagan, United Kingdom
There is no scientific way to predict death, it's only guess work! I know because I've been a nurse for 39 years.No-one deserves to have water taken away from them if they are ill or dying. Life is precious.

I would like to see some prosecutions for murder, which would concentrate the minds of people who rationalise away the torture they arrogantly inflict. Who are they to make these decisions anyway? It is up to the individual.A few years ago a friend died in Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen, two days after telling me that they weren't giving him food or drink and he was profoundly uncomfortable and not moved enough. I gave him something to drink while I was there, but to my shame I didn't believe that they would be so cruel and negligent. To call this a "care" pathway is malthusian and that is the politest word I can find for it. I would like to see all the staff on that ward in prison for a long long time.

12:17, Nov 01, Name not displayed, United Kingdom
I've worked as a elderly carer for the past 9 year, And I've seen this applied to many people before their time, in hospital and in care homes. Who are doctors to decide when someone should die.

11:46, Nov 01, margie newman, United Kingdom
This is nothing but legalized murder, Governments around the world, reckon they can get away with it because of their un wise spending of taxpayers money over the yrs, in areas that money should of been spent on first, for that proper healthcare that their voters put them there? usually for bankers and large corporate companies before the welfare of their populations, is nothing but pure evil. The right to life is Paramount, and no politician can put a price ticket on that, because is easier to act in underhanded ways, as its cheaper to kill than to care?!

11:42, Nov 01, Ms. Kim Taylor, United Kingdom
I watched my 66 yr old mother being murdered by the NHS. First she was seriously injured, then a DNR put in her file ( I sneaked that out) and finally she was put, without consultation, on the eugenicists plan called LCP.Huxley warned us and we now know.

12:41, Oct 31, Name not displayed, United Kingdom
NHS doctors in Leeds chose to end my mums life at their own convenience wthout consulting her, us, or it seems anyone else other than the Pathway. I cannot see the difference between the actions of Dr Harold Shipman and those of the people who "took care" of my mum. I am haunted that I was too distraught at the time to realise what was going on until it was too late. All doctors who have taken life should be struck off immediately and an investigation launched.

14:11, Oct 29, Mrs. Carol Dore, United Kingdom
The NHS killed my father useing the LCP.I wasnt told until after he had passed away that this was the procedure used.I thought euthanasia was illegal here obviously not if your old .God help anyone going into a hospital in this country. The LCP MUST be stopped it is murder for money.

06:06, Oct 28, Leslie Goodridge, United Kingdom
Irealise now my wife was put on the Liverpool Care Pathway at St Gemmas Hospice in Leeds. We were not informed of this and were told she was dying because the cancer had spread to her brain. Tjhere was no evidence for this. Tjere was however evidence that it was the painkiller they were giving her especially the ketamine that was affecting her. They refused a drip and I know now they lied when they said they could not give her one. I believe they killed my wife. This was unacceptable and in my view amounts to legalised murder. I will never trust the medical profession ever again. They deceive and lie to you.The Liverpool care pathway is not a care pathway is should be renamed the Liverpool Death Pathway. The Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Liverpool's Marie Curie Hospice who invented this killing pathway should be prosecuted for promoting this legalised form of murder.

03:40, Oct 27, Ms. Andrea Burke, United Kingdom
This is the 21 Century, we are living in the Uk, everyone deserves the right to life and a dignified death!

02:12, Oct 26, Mr. John Collier, United Kingdom
Thanks toThe Mail for exposing the hazards of The Liverpool Care Pathway. It’s reliance on opiates speaks for itself. Many dying people don’t need much or any pain relief, but do need basic nursing care. Restricting any moisture or fluids is cruel in itself. Sedating all dying patients with opiates is outright euthanasia, and needs to be said loud & clear. The LCP is reportedly often misused and is a national hypocrisy & NHS disgrace.

05:34, Oct 25, Mrs. Denise Charlesworth-Smith, United Kingdom
This murdered my father...... how can this be allowed to happen again? I hate the doctors for what they did, they denied him his life and took away his and our family's future.....Please stop this barbaric practice....its 21st Century UK not 1940's gas chambers in Germany!

10:22, Oct 24, Ms. Anne Hadley, United Kingdom
This appears to be a way for medical staff to play 'God'. Euthenasia in disguise.Everyone has a right to life. It seems to be a way for the NHS to cut their costs!

Prof Patrick Pullicino, who is condemning the Liverpool Care Pathway, practices at the very same Trust responsible for my partner's untimely, and now proven erroneous death. Without any diagnosis and certainly not terminally ill she was just 63 years young who entered the Kent, UK, hospital for a day surgery biopsy. As opposed to returning home with me that day the surgeon told me that she suffered post-op respiratory arrest, an emergency Tracheostomy was performed and she was sedated in ICU. Four days later she was transferred to a nursing ward and received numerous opiates resulting in death 3 weeks later. Not until I requested all medical notes, which the Trust took 4 months to forward, did I become aware of the surreptitious use of a Morphine syringe and an undated DNAR notice.

22:51, Oct 23, Ms. sinead edwards, United Kingdom
what right as human beings do we have to put an unnatural stop to life in such a cruel way, if a vet practiced this on his animal patients they'd be stripped of his/her licence, more people need to be made aware of the liverpool care pathway

06:53, Oct 21, Mr. Jim Lowe, United Kingdom
The UK prides it's self on medical care for everyone regardless of bank balance or status. Why is it that when an individual has the odds stacked against them this gift is rescinded, we need to stop this.

06:28, Oct 21, Mrs. Julie Lowe, United Kingdom

It is very cruel to deny fluids to any living creature at any time of their life or during their death.....

Digusting money oriented medicine....quack quack quack quack...what sort of beasts become doctors nowadays?

Something needs to be done about this!! Negligence happens in the NHS, it costs the NHS milllions every year. When negligence occurs in using this pathway, the results are catastrophic, you only have to look at the stories of all these families who feel that they have lost their loved ones unnecessarily, or nearly lost loved ones through the misuse of this pathway. Improve the regulations surrounding it's use and make sure that families are in agreement and give written consent etc. It would be interesting to compare the figures of people who are put on this pathway in private hospitals compared to NHS hospitals

Life is a precious gift ; it is for no one to judge its quality apart from its owner and relatives. The LCP may have a role in terminal illness for those that choose it but it has no place in hospital wards dealing with elderly people who require treatment and a fair chance the same as anyone else.

My wife died on the Liverpool Care Pathway at a Leeds Hospice. She was admitted for pain control as she had peripheral neuropathy in one of her legs as a result of chemotherapy. When she started behaving oddly and shaking they said the cancer had travelled to her brain. There was no evidence for this. She was on a large number of pain killers and only developed these sympoms after being put on ketamine. The LCP caused decisions to be made too quickly with no consultation or information. It seems to be just a legal way to kill people. I am shocked and disgusted this is allowed to happen so easily.

The Liverpool Pathway is immoral. It killed my Grandad. There is so little respect for our elderly people. It is imperative that this is stopped.

Our hospitals are turning into killing fields for our old.

As a retired Ambulance Officer who has striven all my career to extend & support human life, I am outraged by this lack of care being allowed to happen in modern day medicine!

Easy to apply to people if they aren't your loved ones. Withholding fluids from humans, and animals, to kill them is obscene.
The pathway is discussed with relatives when they are in a state of emotional shock and unable to comprehend exactly what this document means.

this should NEVER be administered without patient's consent.

It's a cruel and horrible death where patients are sedated and food and liquids are withdrawn which can cause internal organs to shutdown. Nobody knows what pain these patients are experiencing because they are unable to ommunicate. It should be banned!

My mother tripped after dressing for a party. 21 days later she was dead after people followed this wretched pathway. What is allowed to happen is evil.

My father aged 81 had pneumonia . He may not have recovered but he deserved a fair chance including treatment the same as any one else. Pneumonia is not a terminal illness. People with no right made choices without consultation until it was too late ; he took 3 weeks to die. It was not painful as far as we could tell - he was too weak to make a fuss, he had not been fed for that time except for what I managed to get into him. He was written off. Outrageous and illegal .I was not allowed to make a decision, it was made for me . He was considered of no worth as he had dementia.

I suspect, but ave no proof that my mothers life was ended this way 4 1/2 years ago. I also believe the method to be inhumane even for terminally ill patients as death by dehydration & lack of nutrition would be a criminal offence if done to an animal. I would not want to die this way.

This is important for me because I now see that my wife was put on the Liverpool Care pathway by St Gemmas Hospice in Leeds. They told me the cancer had spread to her brain and she only had 7 days to live. I believe it was the medicine they gave her for the peripheral neuropathy caused by her chemotherapy, especially the ketamine that caused her confusion and tremors. They refused to give her a drip and of course she died within 7 days. Anyone who is deprived of fluids will die and they knew this. It was not the cancer that killed her it was the lack of water. This pathway is just a legal way to kill someone. I am totally disgusted.

It is being used wrongly and without consent from family members. Euthanasia is illegal in this country so why are hospitals allowed to use when they are there to save lives! As for GP's putting the older frail generation on a 'list' for

Do not play God

I am a RGN and totally agree, it is used inappropriately.

To stand by and do nothing while a wrong proceeds unchallenged is to be complicit in it. Complacency permits the unthinkable to become thinkable and the unacceptable to become possible.
