Liverpool Care Pathway - When The Learnings Had To Stop

This death toll is intolerable. It has been going on for years.
How can they get away with it? Is no-one to be held to account?

Age UK has campaigned to end malnutrition in hospitals since 2006.

"The Department of Health committed to investing 286 million pounds over the two years to 2011 to support implementation of this End of Life Care Strategy. That is 286 million pounds spent to assist people on their path to the next world while denying the necessary funding to keep them alive and well in this!" [petition site]

The Herald Scotland reported in 2010 -

"A recent report estimated that 50,000 patients are dying each year in NHS hospitals in a state of malnutrition, which may have hastened their end..."

This is Mail Online in 2011 -

"Dehydration contributes to the death of more than 800 hospital patients every year..."

This is Mail Online in 2012 –

"Four patients are dying hungry and thirsty on hospital wards every day, shocking figures reveal...."

This is The Guardian in 2013 -

"The Department of Health has said it is "unacceptable" for patients to go hungry or be malnourished in hospitals..."

Really? So why has it taken you so long...?

"There are secret courts in this land that sit in judgement behind closed doors, not to decide and adjudicate heinous crimes, for they are overlooked and go unpunished - as at Gosport and Mid-Staffs; no, these are a cowardly breed who persecute the innocent."

This is Wanda Maddocks talking about her dad -
‘When we visited him in care, he was lethargic and depressed. I’m sure he was drugged up for a lot of it. But here, he was free, he was Dad again.’
Wanda was thrown in one of Britain's nastier gaols for attempting to rescue her beloved father from this sort of neglect.

May we expect similar punishment for the perpetrators of this neglect...?
