Liverpool Care Pathway - With A View To Discern, Or To Allay Concern?

Now, Norfolk to hold its own review…

This is Norfolk County Council -

Liverpool Care Pathway in Norfolk’s hospitals to be discussed by Councillors

04 April 2013
Councillors will next week (Thursday 11 April) scrutinise the use of the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) in Norfolk’s hospitals.
Representatives from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), James Paget Hospital (JPH), and Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C) will attend the Norfolk Health Overview and Scrutiny (NHOSC) meeting and present reports on their use of the LCP.
The Committee, which is charged with safeguarding and promoting the interests of people in the county who use health services, will ask questions on how the hospitals decide to put patients on the LCP, how they speak with patients and families when making this decision and how patients are treated in the final days of life.
There have been concerns reported in the national media where relatives have raised concerns about the use of the pathway and the impact on patients and their families. The Norfolk Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee will review the situation in Norfolk.
The meeting of the Norfolk Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee will be held on Thursday 11 April at 10am in the Edwards Room at County Hall in Norwich. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
